Lom National Park Village
Lom is a vibrant village located between three national parks – Reinheimen, Breheimen and Jotunheimen.
Among other things, visitors will find the Norwegian Mountain Center, the Bakery in Lom, and several shops, accommodation and places to eat.
The Norwegian Mountain Center in Lom
The Norwegian Mountain Center is located in Lom and acts as the visitor center for the three national parks. Visitors can find information about the national parks, trip suggestions and the museum. The museum offers the opportunity to experience the nature, culture and history of Reinheimen and the other national parks.
Åndalsnes
The town of Åndalsnes is located at the mouth of the River Rauma and the end of Romsdalen valley. With all the well-known mountain peaks surrounding the town, Åndalsnes has a vibrant city center with several shops and cafés, and has also become a very popular destination for summit trips.
One of the many experiences here is the hike up to Rampestreken, a steep but beautiful town-center walk that also offers views towards Reinheimen. A bus runs from the Norwegian Mountaineering Centre to Vengedalen during the summer, which is the starting point for the trip to Romsdalseggen ridge.
The Norwegian Mountaineering Centre
The Norwegian Mountaineering Centre is a visitor center and museum featuring exhibitions and a climbing wall. The centre is located between the quay and the train station in Åndalsnes, and is a good starting point if you want to experience the local nature and surrounding mountains. The Norwegian Mountaineering Centre provides information about the national park, and about the history of climbing in Romsdalen.
The Trollstigen pass and the Norwegian Scenic Route
At the top of the Trollstigen pass is the Trollstigen viewpoint and café. The viewpoint is a place to stop that offers a great view over the mountains and Isterdalen valley towards Åndalsnes. It is a place where visitors can find information about Reinheimen, and it serves as a starting point for several waymarked trails in the area.
Visitors can drive northwest of Reinheimen National Park along the Geiranger-Trollstigen Scenic Route and get a view of the park’s most alpine terrain.
The Kløvstien trail
The Kløvstien trail is an old thoroughfare from Valldal to Åndalsnes and runs through Trollstigen Protected Landscape. Visitors can experience a beautiful hike that follows the River Istra at the foot of the mighty Bispen, Kongen and Dronninga mountains. The route then continues through a damp forest filled with ferns and moss. It is also possible to choose between taking a short loop or hiking all the way to the top of the Trollstigen pass.
Valldal
In the summer, the strawberry-growing village of Valldal is full of life. From the town center, visitors can take a walk along the historic Pilgrim Path or enjoy a cup of coffee by the fjord and admire the mountains from the quayside. At the quay, visitors can find information about Reinheimen National Park and the Geiranger-Herdalen World Heritage Site.
Lesja
The agricultural village of Lesja has a long and rich hunting and trapping culture. Just like the other municipalities around Reinheimen, the people of Lesja have used the resources in the mountains for thousands of years.
Lesja Open Air Museum is located in the town center, where visitors can learn more about the wild reindeer, Reinheimen and the cultural history of the area. Many different shops and services can be found in Lesja town center, Bjorli and the other villages in Lesja Municipality.
The Tussheim viewpoint is a one-hour hike from the center of Lesja, and visitors can read about Reinheimen and the wild reindeer habitats while walking along the trail.
Rånåkollen
Rånåkollen mountain is located between Reinheimen National Park and Dovrefjell-Sundalsfjella at Bjorli. There is a waymarked trail to the summit, where visitors can experience great views of both national parks and seek shelter in Rånåbue day-trip cabin if needed.
Billingen
Billingen Guest House is beautifully located approximately 30 kilometers north of Bismo in Skjåk Municipality. The guest house offers accommodation, homemade food from its own farm, a cozy atmosphere and rich cultural history. With the Tora and Føysa rivers rushing by, Billingen is a natural approach to Reinheimen National Park. There is a waymarked nature and cultural trail stretching 3.1 kilometers up through wooded hillsides, with expansive views of Reinheimen and Breheimen.
